Dear WAGIC Colleague,

The next meeting of WAGIC is scheduled for August 29.Please note the change from the original schedule. This meeting will continue the practice of theme-based meetings. The topic for this month is, GIS in Support of Parks and Recreation. The proposed agenda includes presentations from Washington Parks and Recreation Commission, Spokane County and the City of Spokane. There are a number of items to cover in the business portion of the meeting.I donít want to repeat the agenda here, but there are a few items worth calling attention to.Topics include:

I would also like to start a discussion on the WAGIC bylaws. As I step into the position of chair for the group, I find it to be a daunting task to arrange the meetings, not to mention keep up on everything that is going on.I suspect that others of you more wise than I have looked at this position and have avoided getting too involved for that reason.I have some ideas for spreading the load around that I would like to share and perhaps work into the bylaws. At the meeting, I will ask if there are volunteers to participate on a review group.

As I begin my term as chair of the Council, I look forward to developing a working relationship with more of you.A fundamental belief of mine is that we work better when we work together. It sounds a little corny to say that, but I believe we can see this fulfilled as we work together to share data through the framework and other similar efforts. As we achieve successes, others will see the possibilities and it will take on a life of its own.It is my hope that we can advance further down that path.

If you have questions about the meeting agenda, teleconference locations, or WAGIC in general, you can contact Jeff Holm at (360) 902-3447, or myself at (360) 709-5515.Or, check out our web site at http://www.wa.gov/gic/.Also feel free to contact me if you have ideas about the direction of WAGIC and GIS.Until then, I look forward to seeing you at the next meeting.
