July 26th, 2001
Dear WAGIC Colleague,
Thanks to all of you who attended and participated in June's theme-based WAGIC on GIS and the Health Community. I would especially like to thank the presenters, Craig Erickson and David Jennings from the Washington State Department of Health. Both of you did a great job! It is always enlightening to see how GIS is being used in a discipline such as Health which may be outside our own areas of expertise.
This month's WAGIC meeting, scheduled for August 16th, will focus on GIS and Transportation. And what timing we have for such a theme, now that our Washington's State Legislature has finally adjourned from its marathon session without finding a long-term fiscal solution to our state's transportation infrastructure woes. Obviously, transportation infrastructure is critically important to our economic viability and it is imperative that we manage that resource in the most efficient way possible. GIS can play a key role in that regard. At our August 16th WAGIC meeting you will see four such GIS presentations focusing on current and future uses of GIS technology in two state level organizations whose main mission is transportation services: the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and County Road Administration Board (CRAB). These presentations should be lively informative, so please remember to invite interested individuals from within your organizations. And for all of you local government folks, don't forget to invite staff from your own Public Works or Engineering departments, as CRAB's Mobility software will have a direct impact on how you support and maintain your county road infrastructure. What better time than now to learn what the future holds! Thanks in advance to all of those presenting during this special transportation-related session.
During our business portion of the meeting, Jeff Holm (now that he is back from his fabulous tour of Europe) will update us on a variety of topics, from the LandSat 7 Data consortium to the 2001-2002 WAGIC budget. This budget was previously presented by Jeff at our June WAGIC meeting. Now that you have had time to reflect on the proposed budget, he will be bringing it before you all for final approval.
Thanks again to each of you
for your support of the WAGIC. Your
attendance and support is
appreciated. If you have any questions, or would like additional information about this meeting or WAGIC in general, please call either Jeff Holm at (360) 902-3447 or me at (509) 477-6344.
We look forward to seeing you at the next meeting.
