June 1, 2001

Dear WAGIC Colleague,

Thanks to all of you who attended and participated in April's theme-based WAGIC meeting on GIS and the Utilities sector.  A special thanks goes out to all the presenters: David Cullom, John Bottelli, and Curtis Kirkeby.  Those presentations were great examples of what all of you do everyday within our GIS community -- work together across institutional boundaries to build a safer and healthier environment as well as more efficient and effective organizations.

You should have heard by now that we have rescheduled this month's WAGIC meeting for June 14th; it will focus on how GIS is used within the Health Community.  We will have two presentations from the Washington State Department of Health.  Please do not forget to invite other interested Health-related personnel since the Washington State Department of Health will be providing great examples of how GIS is currently being used to support both healthcare administration and environmental health and assessment.

During our business portion of the meeting I will be doing a short presentation on some of the topics that were discussed at the National States Geographic Information Council (NSGIC) mid-year meetings that I recently attended -- which were far more lively and passionate than I as expected.  Also, it's time once again to discuss the 2001-2002 WAGIC budget, which will be presented by Jeff Holm.  We will also have a brief update on the WAGIC Strategic Plan Activities sub-committee meetings that have continued since the Ellensburg planning workshop in March.

Let me close by saying that I am honored to be re-elected to a second term as Chair of WAGIC.  My first year as Chair just flew by. Thanks to all of you who have participated in the theme-based meetings, both presenters and attendees alike. For my part I know that I have certainly found the WAGIC meetings to be well attended, and most importantly, informative. So thanks again for making WAGIC viable and fun!  If you have any questions, or would like additional information about this meeting or WAGIC in general, please call either Jeff Holm at (360) 902-3447 or me at (509) 477-6344.

We look forward to seeing you at the next meeting.

Sincerely,

Ian Von Essen
